Through the camping program we aim to help the children from Yrs 3 - 6 realise the following:
independence
self confidence in an unfamiliar environment
social interaction
broader educational experience
enhance experiences in other parts of the curriculum
safety factors in the natural environment
respect of native flora and fauna
an awareness of the native environment
a number of different ways to spend leisure time
independently look after hygiene and personal belongings
an appreciation of our country’s natural and man-made features
increase general knowledge about our country
learn about Australian History
In order for camps to be held, there must be the correct ratio of staff to children attending. Where possible there will be two camps, a grade 3/4 and a grade 5/6. The camp sites are selected to introduce the children to a variety of significant points of interest. They are selected for their coastal, country, national park, historical or conservation significance.
Every two years the children in Years 5 and 6 have the opportunity to visit Canberra. The in-between years are rotated between the following locations: Lake Tyers, Swan Hill and Port Fairy. All 5/6 camps are of 5 days' duration.
The Year 3 and 4 students have the opportunity to visit sites closer to Melbourne e.g. Portsea, Phillip Island. All 3/4 camps are of 3 days' duration. The grade 2 children will have the opportunity to experience a sleepover at a selected venue such as Scienceworks. By having a sleepover, we aim to help the children in Year 2 to:
become independent
engage in a broader educational experience
increase social interaction
increase self-confidence
experience our Humanities program through media and technology.
