Principal's Report

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

Our school is conducting the annual Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey offered by the Department of Education and is seeking your feedback. The survey is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. The survey is optional, but we encourage and appreciate your participation.

Our school will use the survey results to assist in identifying areas for improvement and professional development needs in the school, to target school planning and improvement strategies.

The Parent / Caregiver / Guardian Opinion Survey will be open online from next Monday 29th July to Friday 30th August 2024. All families are invited to participate in the survey.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time on desktop computers, laptops, tablets or smartphones.

The online survey will be available in English and ten other languages including Arabic, Greek, Hakha Chin, Hindi, Japanese, Punjabi, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Turkish, and Vietnamese. Resources are also available in additional languages to assist parents / caregivers / guardians who speak a language other than English at home.

Survey results will be communicated to parents / caregivers / guardians through the Newsletter when results are available

I have included a summary of last year’s survey results. Looking at our school’s results against that of Similar Schools, Yarra/Darebin Network Schools and the State average, it is evident that Reservoir West is thought of highly by our parents/carers/guardians. In most factors, our school’s percentages of positive responses are above or well above those of the other groups. I’m hoping that the 2024 results are just as good.

YEAR 5/6 PERSUASIVE WRITING

I received the following letter last week. Looks like I have some work to do.

Dear Bruce,

How have you been?

We are writing to you because we want the canteen to open again. Lots of people have been missing the canteen, especially us s that have not been to the canteen since prep. Some kids like preps and year 1s, havent even been here when the canteen was open. We think it would be wonderful if you could open it up again, even if its just a few days a week. We understand that one of the reasons why its closed down is because there arent enough parents volunteering, but we can help with that. All we ask is that you read this letter through the end, because there are a plethora of reasons that support our thoughts.

Primarily, we believe that the canteen should reopen because a lot of kids have missed it and want it to come back. We know it’s hard to manage the canteen, but we can help run it. All we need from you is a thumbs-up. The canteen could be open even for just two days a week, just enough for everyone to notice. It’s clear as crystal what your answer should be.

Secondly, a grand reopening of the canteen is surely a good idea because children often forget their lunch. We know the best way to deal with this is to let their parents know, but we think occasionally, if it’s their first time forgetting or if it’s once in a while, it could be okay. Plus, the canteen would make a great place to do the free fruit stands. We think the previous information is absolutely enough to convince you to open the canteen.

Furthermore, the canteen coming back is definitely a brilliant idea because we could volunteer. We know that one of the key reasons it is closed is because there aren’t enough parents volunteering, but we can help. We are willing to give our lunchtimes up to run the canteen and help out all the little kids who want a nice snack. We are clearly good for this job because we are responsible and know how to work out change and help everyone. It is simple why we should reopen the canteen.

Finally, the canteen coming back is a great idea because we can have different foods for different weather. In Summer, we can have frozen yoghurt and Zooper Doopers, and in Winter we can have warm popcorn and cookies. These are just a few of the many things we could offer to children during the open times. Buying the food can be very expensive, but we would be willing to pitch in. Plus, we can use the money we make to buy more, and any extra money we make can go towards our school. The answer to this question should be pretty obvious.

Ultimately, you should now hopefully understand why our idea to bring back the canteen is ingenious and should definitely be brought into action. Our logical reasons, such as us volunteering and children having an alternative if they forget their lunch, clearly prove that we are cut out for the job and can help manage the canteen. We appreciate you reading through to the end of this letter, and hope we changed your mind.

Thank you for your consideration,

Celine (yr 5), Savannah (yr 6) & Serena (yr 6) from LA3

2025 FOUNDATION ENROLMENTS

Foundation enrolment applications for 2025 are due on Friday 26th July, which is Friday of this week. I believe that there are a few of our current families who have not yet lodged an enrolment form for Foundation 2025. Please complete this by the end of the week.

TERM 3 SPECIALIST TIMETABLE

Where a session has a dividing slash ( / ) between two classes, they are fortnightly lessons.

The class before the slash has the lesson in the odd weeks and the class after the slash has the lesson in the even weeks.
