PARENT WORKSHOP!
THE LITERACY BLOCK AND GENRE WRITING AT RWPS
FOUNDATION – TWO PARENTS/CARERS
Thank you to all parents/carers who attended the F – Year 2 workshop on Wednesday, 14th August. Parents/carers gained insights into the literacy curriculum, our Explicit Instruction model based on the John Fleming Effective Teaching Model, Literacy Blocks and Genre Writing.

We had parents/carers hard at work! They were asked to complete a couple of activities, browse resources and watch recordings of different elements of Literacy in F – 2.

BEENLEIGH STATE SCHOOL VISIT
On Friday, August 30th, we had the pleasure of hosting 11 visitors from Beenleigh State School. The visitors were most impressed with our school's vibrant and modern facilities, expressing a bit of envy over our colourful buildings. They had the opportunity to share information about their work with John Flemming who they have been working with since 2016, with our School Improvement Team. The visitors also engaged in meaningful discussions with Kane from our Wellbeing team and Annemarie, our Turbo Leader, to learn about our initiatives in these areas and to exchange insights on their own practices. They observed various classroom activities, including Reading, Writing, Spelling, and Maths, leaving with valuable ideas to take back to their school. The visitors were particularly impressed with how well John’s Effective Teaching Model has been integrated into our school in such a short time, providing us with validation that we are on the right track. A big thank you to all our staff and students for making them feel so welcomed!

LANGUAGE CLUB
Year to 3 – 6 Language Club was a huge success. The three sessions offered have now concluded for the term. Participating students were engrossed in learning about the language, history and culture of Italy. A BIG thank you to Sandro (parent of Lara in Prep) for organsing the activities and volunteering his time. Our participating students were eager to share with him all about their experiences and/or knowledge of Italy. Some even enjoyed the sessions so much that they brought to school, souvenirs from family members who have visited Italy.

Language Club will be offered again in Term 4 for Foundation to Year 2, with exact details and dates yet to be decided.

Wellbeing

WELLBEING & INCLUSION

If you have walked into the school from Academy Avenue, you would have seen the Wellbeing Hub. For the last eight years, the Wellbeing Team have been working hard to set up Wellbeing support which began in the little office in the Milburn Wing.

CHILD SAFETY
Everyone has the right to be safe and be protected from abuse. Reservoir West Primary School is fully committed to providing a safe and respectful learning environment for all.

Please see our Policy & Practice page for more information or visit https://www.education.vic.gov.au/protect

WELLBEING TEAM
At Reservoir West Primary School (RWPS) we are proud of the role that our staff take on ensuring the health, safety and wellbeing of all our students and their families. Our classroom teachers are our first layer of the support that we offer at RWPS and should be the first point of contact.

We also offer an additional layer to our wellbeing program for those students and their families who need extra support, whether that be ongoing, or in a particular time of need.

What supports are offered at Reservoir West PS?
Our Wellbeing Team works on many different levels to support our school. These include: Mental Health & Wellbeing / Social Support / Emotional Regulation / Inclusion / Attendance/ Welfare

What do the 3 leveled tiers of support mean?
There are three tiers of support offered for children in government school: Tier 1, 2 and 3 support.

  • Tier 1: Positive mental health promotion –Universal interventions to help schools to create a positive, inclusive and supporting school climate, building the preconditions for optimal student learning, development and wellbeing.
  • Tier 2: Early intervention / cohort specific – Early interventions and those for specific cohorts of students complement universal interventions and provide essential additional support for students with specific needs or vulnerabilities.
  • Tier 3: Targeted support– Interventions for individuals or small groups of students requiring intensive tailored mental health support to engage positively in education.

With many new families at RWPS and queries about the role of the Wellbeing Team, we have provided information below of who is in the Wellbeing team, their role and qualifications, and guidance for parents with whom to contact should you need support that stems further than a classroom setting or concerns of a sensitive nature.

How to access Wellbeing Support?

  1. Meet with your child’s classroom teacher/s to discuss what supports are needed. The classroom teacher should be the first point of contact.
  2. The classroom teacher will refer the matter to the Wellbeing Team.
  3. The Wellbeing Team use the Triage Scale to determine whether the matter requires immediate action (category 1), urgent action (category 2), or non-urgent (category 3), and determine whether this is a referral to Emma
  4. The Wellbeing Team will notify the teacher of the waitlist depending on the category level and contact the parents directly.
